Stellar is set for a network-wide protocol vote today, October 22, 2025, at 17:00 UTC. If validators approve Protocol 24, the upgrade will take effect immediately. This follows the testnet upgrade completed yesterday and the release of stable builds on October 20.

According to the Stellar Development Foundation, Protocol 24 fixes a bug in the state archival feature within Stellar Core. The timeline for this rollout has been much shorter than usual, prompting the Foundation to remind node operators to update their systems without delay.
Infrastructure providers who manage Stellar Core, Horizon, RPC, or Galexie must install the new protocol versions before the vote. The Foundation has released updated Docker images and package builds to support the process.
What Operators and Validators Must Do
Node operators are required to update all relevant binaries. This includes Stellar Core, Horizon, RPC, and Galexie. For those using Docker, the latest images should be pulled from the registry. Developers building from source or using Debian packages should apply the latest binaries made available for Protocol 24.
A brief delay may occur after the update. The Foundation noted,
“It may take around one hour for Horizon and RPC to catch up following the upgrade.”
Operators are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid service interruptions.
Validators who will participate in today’s vote need to run a specific command to prepare their nodes. This command schedules the protocol upgrade at the designated time and version. The Foundation has stated that once approved, the upgrade will take effect right away, without a waiting period.
Developers using Stellar SDKs do not need to make any changes. Since Protocol 24 does not include changes to the network’s data formats, current applications will continue working as expected. The Foundation has confirmed:
“No SDK action is required.”
This update follows the release of Protocol 23, which brought changes to transaction handling and the developer experience. By contrast, Protocol 24 focuses solely on backend infrastructure stability.
The quick rollout is intended to resolve a specific technical issue, without affecting app behavior or developer workflows.
Broader Ecosystem Updates and Developer Coordination
Looking beyond the upgrade, a second validator vote will take place at a later date to activate the repaired archival feature. Operators who do not run validators will not need to take any steps related to that vote.
Additionally, the Stellar ecosystem continues to grow. As BTCDaily reported, RedSwan Digital Real Estate recently moved $100 million in commercial property assets to Stellar’s blockchain. These assets, which include multifamily and hospitality projects, are available on RedSwan’s regulated marketplace.
RedSwan allows investors to invest in tokenized real estate shares and thus access fractional ownership through its Token Studio platform. The company intends to increase accessibility and ease investment via 24/7 markets.
Developers and infrastructure teams are invited to the Stellar Developer Discord to get the latest information on the upgrade and related events.
Meanwhile, Stellar (XLM) price stood at $0.31 at press time, down 2% over the past 24 hours and 8% over the past week.
